Sunset in the Scablands

 My top spot for a sunset , Steamboat Rock.
Bring your natural bug repellent (Deet bad for you !) We use cedar spray and that generally keeps us safe from all things bug.
The mosquitos were out in force , big bastards.

When Travelling in the Channeled Scablands do try and take in a sunset at Steamboat Rock

 We drove from out overnight location in Ephrata to Steamboat Rock at about 6pm to catch the sunset.
We caught it and had a dark and curly drive back to Ephrata, lightening in the distance shocking the big sky and it's complete darkness. A strange mist was over just a smidge of the road, the kind we used to see alot in the dips and dives of the Suffolk roadways.

Scablands Deer at Steamboat Rock

 Welcome to sunset at Steamboat Rock. It was beautiful. ALOT of mosquitoes by the water, the dog was getting attacked.
Lots of deer meandering about with their young at a distance  but not too far.
Keeping their eyes on you, they were.

and then we buried a junco...

we came across a little dead junco on our walk back in May.
It seemed like the birds around were freaking out a bit.
we carved out a little grave and buried him down.

 Between this and later witnessing about 30 Bald eagles my day was complete. Invigorated with forces beyond human hands , beyond anything offered in a shop or a service.
The next time I go to San Juan Island I will be spending an entire day there, this is guaranteed.
What an amazing place.
