port angelas and surroundings

ruby beach, olympic peninsula

sequim bay summer 09- tree avec genitals

this tree was next to our balcony. at night we heard sounds that one might hear in a horror movie - surrounded by woods  pitch dark , the frat boys had been the only noise and they were finally asleep in their beach hut- having packed in the pabst. strange possessed sounds ...the next night we figured they must be seals....but there was some time spent rather freaked out.

Robe canyon

Anonymous rock balancer, seems like a fav pastime for hikers on this part of the Stillagumish.

I generaly dont get so hung up on types of photos, but cant get away from shooting up a tree. I think in part its because I can lean on the tree and therefore make the HDR shot a little more stable (I dont use a tripod). and of course there is something about the moss covered trees of Washington state. Looking up into the canopy from below is OK, looking up into luminous creepy ancient branches is better, creates an atmosphere, its very quiet in this place, apart form the continuous questions from Talula, who takes the hairy branches in her stride, more interested in getting into the river, even though its freezing cold, and semi raging.

mt rainer

it rained most of our stay in mt rainer. we barely saw the mountain while we were on it, at paradise it revealed itself slightly.
(as show in top photo.)
it was amazing there or not there and reaching paradise left so much above not yet explored.
deer came and ate outside our house most mornings and evenings. we sat in a hot tub with disco light features in the pouring rain, driving rain.
my heart leaped driving through the twists and turns from the grove of the patriarchs west to paradise, never had i felt so afraid of the drive as well as so automatically in love with each vista. it was like a coming home to something one of those feelings where a shiver of excitement gives you goose bumps and leaves you like some sort of wild nature junky seeking the next fix each new view a thirsting for more rather then a quenching or satiating of any present thirst ...just more more more more more...
or is that just me? dramatically needing view upon view upon view.
we intend to go up it as a family when talula is old enough and i think that's a marvelous plan.

welcome to the smaller places....

some of the smaller aspects of lakeview cemetery, seattle.
listening to flaming lips embryonic while scanning and discovering images i haven't seen aside from in the small frame of their 35mm negative, it's kind of like magic for me on a weds. or on any day - i think magic has been easier to achieve since becoming less demanding through age and being brow beaten
( in the most fun of ways) by my daughter.
the stillness of the green and how many things live with us here on this planet which we dont notice and cant notice if we are hurling past in the rapidity of modern western life. slowing down - ever such a popular movement after for years rushing straight on ahead mostly with blinders on.
